- Summary
- Collection of five films from the legendary Swedish art house director. In 'It Rains On Our Love' (1946) a chance meeting between Maggi (Barbro Kollberg) and David (Birger Malmsten) leads to them breaking into a summer cottage to spend the night together. Smitten, the couple set out to rent the cottage from owner Per (Ludde Gentzel), unaware of his underhand intentions. 'A Ship Bound for India' (1947) follows sailor Johannes Blom (Malmsten), who returns home from seven years at sea to find his love, Sally (Gertrud Fridh), in a state of utter despair. The origins of Sally's condition appear to stretch back to a series of incidents involving Blom's captain, Alexander (Holger Löwenadler), which the sailor will have to revisit if he wants to help Sally recover. 'Sawdust and Tinsel' (1953) follows a group of down-on-their-luck circus performers as they face love, jealousy, humiliation and loss on their travels around the countryside with employer Albert Johansson (Ake Grönberg). 'Dreams' (1955) follows fashion photographer Susanne Frank (Eva Dahlbeck) as she heads to Gothenburg to photograph young model Doris (Harriet Andersson) and, she hopes, to reignite a love affair with Henrik (Ulf Palme). But Doris also has romantic problems and the days of the two women don't go as planned. 'So Close to Life' (1958) follows a trio of women at various stages of pregnancy who share a ward. While Cecilia (Ingrid Thulin) suffers a miscarriage and Stina (Dahlbeck) looks forward to having a child, Hjôrdis (Bibi Andersson) is terrified at the prospect of giving birth
